Improving community competence, KKN UNY supports SDGs 4 through Gabugan Local Guide Academy

Students of KKNM-33084 Yogyakarta State University organized the Gabugan Local Guide Academy activity as an effort to increase human resource capacity in Gabugan Tourism Village, Donokerto Village, Kapanewon Turi, Sleman Regency. Gabugan Local Guide Academy was held on September 5, 2026 at the Gabugan Community Hall with 20 participants consisting of the manager of the Gabugan Tourism Village and members of the Youth Organization.
Gabugan Local Guide Academy presents two speakers from the Indonesian Pramuwisata Association (HPI) of Sleman Regency, namely Mr. Setya Budi, S.Or. and Mrs. R. Oki Triana Mukti, S.Pd. The activity was carried out by delivering material on the basics of tourism guidance, communication, hospitality, opening guide, storytelling, safety in guiding, group management, and problem solving. Then the material is applied through simulation and roleplay of tourism guidance by utilizing the local potential of Gabugan Tourism Village as a practical material.

The implementation of Gabugan Local Guide Academy activities provides direct opportunities for participants to gain learning experience and develop skills relevant to tourism guiding. Through practice, participants practice conveying information, communicating, providing services, compiling tourist narratives and responding to situations in guiding activities. This activity supports SDGs 4: Quality Education through skill-based learning and capacity building of local communities. This competency improvement can be a provision for the community in supporting the management and development of the local potential of Gabugan Tourism Village.
Through Gabugan Local Guide Academy, students of KKNM-33084 Yogyakarta State University play a role in facilitating community competence development activities through training and presenting professional Speakers from HPI Sleman Regency. This activity is expected to be the first step for Gabugan Tourism Village to develop leadership competencies and support improving the quality of tourism services to tourists.
